Jefferson County provided a great starting point for the 2018 Governor’s Cup marathon and half marathon races, the race director says.
“We look forward to a long partnership with everyone in Jefferson County,” said Bryan Haines, Governor’s Cup Race Director in a report on race highlights.
“Runners enjoyed the new course, and it was a smooth transition for the race,” he said.
“Our half marathon runners enjoyed going through Clancy while Clancy Days was getting set up, as they had an extra boost of cheering as they started on their 13.1 mile journey,” said Haines.
He thanked the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the communities of Jefferson City, Clancy and Montana city “for warmly welcoming our race participants and volunteers.”
He said the new course “proved challenging, yet very scenic and fast.”
Mark Messmer of Missoula broke the men’s half marathon event record and several runners set personal bests in the distance events, said Haines.
New year’s Governor’s Cup is slated for June 7 and 8.
