Gold Junction Presents, the non-profit organization aiming to turn Whitehall into a performing arts hub, has won a long-sought $82,000 grant to support improvements that could expand the range of productions at its Star Theater.

The grant, from Golden Sunlight Mine, is earmarked for the purchase of a flexible-use stage, said Gold Junction Chair Elizabeth Pullman. The funds also could be used to tear out the theater’s drop ceiling, restoring its original, more open feel, she said.

The improvements would allow for the installation of lighting and sound equipment that would make it possible for the Star to host live theater and musical concerts. Pullman said Gold Junction is pricing the work with contractors, and that the project could be completed by next year.
