I would like to start by thanking the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners and the various groups working to bring economic development here. I would also challenge all residents of Jefferson County to be aware of these discussions and the impact they may have on quality of life and taxes, both good and bad.
Currently there is discussion of the development of a Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Legacy Center located in Boulder. To date the county has no formal agreement for the land where this complex would be located, $25,000 has been spent on a feasibility study for this project and there was an agenda item to expend up to $50,000 for a Preliminary Architectural Report.
At the March 26 commission meeting, after some discussion of this project, it was suggested that the commissioners take additional action prior to a vote to expend more funds. These included: a formal agreement for the land that would be used for the center, provide additional information about the project through news articles and public meetings, and to provide the feasibility study for public review. As a result the commission tabled the agenda item to expend more funds until its April 30 meeting.
It is not my intention at this time to speak for or against this project, but I feel strongly that we need to be made aware of the scope and impact this project may have. Watch for and read the articles, attend the meetings, ask questions and get involved. – Nita McCauley, Boulder
