Flooding could come with spring warming, advises county DES coordinator

The year 2011 was a flood year in Jefferson County, and snowpack this year is significantly higher, Jefferson County Disaster and Emergency Services Coordinator Doug Dodge said late last week.

“An interesting slide jumped out at me during today’s National Weather Service monthly briefing,” said Dodge. The slide compared snow water levels on March 1, 2011 with March 1, 2018.

According to the snowpack map, parts of Jefferson County have snow water equivalents over 150 percent of average and all of Jefferson County has at least 130 percent of average. In 2011 those levels were between 90 and 129 percent.
