At its July 16 meeting, the Jefferson High School District No. 1 School Board received a recommendation from SMA Architects to not expand Jefferson High School.

The board hired the Helena-based firm in May to collect information about Jefferson High School District No. 1 and Jefferson County. Its recommendation came after reviewing responses from three community meetings the firm held in May and from a survey of Jefferson County High School District No. 1 residents that received 309 responses.

Principal architect Jason Davis, who presented a summary of the data from SMA’s soon-to-be-approved final report, said his firm does not recommend expanding Jefferson High’s facilities because it doesn’t expect that the school’s growth will explode anytime soon unless something unexpected happens, like Helena high schools closing enrollment to out-of-district students.
