Finally: Golf, tennis squads get to play outside

The Jefferson High boys golf team finally got on a course last week. The weather wasn’t perfect, but after weeks of postponements, no one was complaining.

On April 10, the squad traveled to Townsend. Their team score, 394, was not low enough to place. But Preston Field led the Panthers with rounds of 46 and 45 for a 91, and Andy Johnson was one back with 44 and 48 for a 92 total. Luke Eckmann shot 52 and 52 for 104, and Cole Oie shot 50 and 57 for 107.

The varsity team was set to compete in the Manhattan meet at Bridger Creek on the 17th and at Cottonwood for the Manhattan Christian meet on Tuesday the 23rd.

Meanwhile, the Panther tennis team traveled to Great Falls on Friday and Saturday to compete in the large Poplar meet. A cold, wet day forced a delay in the start of action on Friday. The next day was cold, as well, but the girls were just happy to get in some much needed playing time.

Results were not available as of press time.

This week, Jefferson were set to host Whitehall and Three Forks on Monday. On Wednesday, the Panthers travel to Choteau for a two-day tournament, and on April 23, they play at Townsend.
