High school football season ended with the championship games in all classes last week. Fairfield continued its undefeated season with a 30-13 win over Missoula Loyola for the Class B championship. Loyola suffered just two losses in the year and both were to Fairfield.
The two teams met the second game of the year in a non-conference game, with Fairfield taking the win 38-6. This year Fairfield had the total package: an offense that averaged 44.1 points a game made it difficult for other teams to match, and a defense that was really key with fourteen points the most they gave up in any game during the year. They shut out six teams entirely, leaving only six other teams to get onto the score board. For the year, Fairfield put 529 points up while giving up a total of 57. That kind of powerhouse is rare.
Their 4.8 average of points scored against them was by far better than any other Class B team, a big key to their undefeated season of 12-0. The top five offensive averages were Roundup at 47.8, Fairfield 44.1, Loyola 38.4, Bigfork 35.4, and Huntley Project 34.9. The top five defensive averages were Fairfield 4.8, Sweetgrass County 12.0, Bigfork 14.7, Loyola 16.1, and Colstrip 16.2.
In Class AA Billings West took the title over Kalispell Flathead 20-14, Class A Billings Central beat Hamilton 28-21 for the title, Class C 8-man saw Drummond-Philipsburg defeat Great falls Central, and Class C 6-man saw Wibaux over Jordan 70-27.
