The rodeo had me at hello.

I’ve ridden horses a handful of times. I’ve spent a good deal of time with livestock and cowfolk on ranches and farms. I’ve even seen a few mechanical bull rides in western-style bars.

But before this past weekend I’d never seen anybody perform on a horse, underscoring my complete inexperience with rodeo. So, over the summer I intentionally avoided attending other rodeos, to ensure our county’s late August affair would be my initiation.
