Jefferson High’s wrestling squad hit the highway last week for a long trip north — first to Cascade for a mixer on Jan. 8, then on to Cut Bank for a big two-day tournament over the weekend.

In Cascade, 19 Panthers hit the mat, and five collected wins: Emma Good and Maysa LaFromboise at 110 pounds, Russell Douglas at 118, Mike Richard at 144 and Tellen Seimanton at 157.

The Cut Bank Booster Club Invitational the next day featured 532 competitors from 34 teams, including several Class AA and A schools — a big test for Jefferson. Seven Panther wrestlers advanced through the first two rounds to reach the quarterfinals: Emma Jurkovac at 100 pounds, LaFromboise, Douglas, Richard, Cooper Mikesell at 150 and Madison Neely at 190. Of those, only Douglas made it to the semifinals, ensuring at least a sixth-place finish.
