DeVries reflects on session, plans to seek re-election

Asked what he’s learned representing Jefferson County at the 2019 Montana Legislature, Rep. Greg DeVries, sitting for an interview in the state Capitol last week, paused for a moment and pondered.

“Everybody looks to the government to solve all their problems,” he said. “I’ve learned that.”

And that’s the conundrum for him, said DeVries, a first-term Republican lawmaker who campaigned on limiting government and promoting Christian values, fighting abortion in particular. As he wraps up his first stint in the Capitol and prepares to run for re-election, DeVries said he’s focused on reining government in — though he acknowledges he didn’t accomplish a ton on that front this year.
