Montana’s Republican U.S. Senator Steve Daines has praised President Donald Trump for his efforts to “secure America’s borders.” Barring refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries is a wise move for the nation, said Daines. “We are at war with Islamic extremists and anything less than 100 percent verification of these refugees’ backgrounds puts our national security at risk. We need to take the time to examine our existing programs to ensure terrorists aren’t entering our country. The safety of U.S. citizens must be our number one priority,” he said. Daines also supported other moves by Trump to close down the nation to outsiders.
“I applaud President Trump’s action to protect Americans and make our nation safe,” Daines stated. “I share President Trump’s commitment to securing the border, building our border’s infrastructure and protecting the homeland from threats.” Daines also applauded Trump’s move to bar sanctuary cities from receiving federal funds.
“America’s cities need to uphold the rule of law and prosecute criminals who are not only in our country illegally, but repeatedly violate the laws of our nation,” Daines stated. “I’m pleased the President has taken this important action to protect Americans and uphold our nation’s laws.” Daines defined a sanctuary jurisdiction as a state or locality that forbids its local law enforcement from sharing information with federal immigration officials and complying with an immigration detainer.
