Cynthia D. Merchant Yanzick passed away on Oct. 21, 2023.

Cindy was born on Dec. 15, 1953, in Jamaica, NY, to Evelyn and Tom Merchant. She grew up in Queens, NY, and moved to Missoula to pursue a degree in psychology from the University of Montana.

While in Missoula, Cindy developed a lifelong passion for gardening and worked in the university’s greenhouses. Her education led her to employment as a habitational specialist at Montana State School in Boulder. Cindy met Philip Yanzick in Boulder; they were married on Aug. 11, 1986 and were together until Phil’s death in 2001.

Cindy loved interior design and found great joy in remodeling their home, designing her Westy’s doghouse, and landscaping their yard into a beautiful scene. She was also an incredible cook and cutthroat card player, giving Phil a run for his money! She took great pleasure in finding and acquiring unique antiques and artwork throughout her life. She was an intelligent, creative, humorous, and intuitive woman with the sauciness of a true New Yorker.

Cindy was preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, brother-in-law, and husband. There will be a Celebration of Life at Dave’s Bar on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at 4 p.m., hosted by the Yanzick family.
