County pays $19,900+ legal bill for woman who ran Whitehall recall petition drive

Jefferson County will pay $19,969 in legal bills incurred by a Whitehall woman who backed a recall drive against the mayor and four council members there.

In a unanimous vote March 13, the county commission agreed to cover the costs incurred by Lynn Nemeth over a long legal process that made its way through the Montana Supreme Court.

The case began in April 2016 when Mayor Dale Davis and council members Vincent Keogh, Gary Housman, Tom E. Jenkin and Joe E. Adams discussed and voted on a matter related to the town’s ambulance service even though the matter was not listed on the published agenda for the meeting. Nemeth initiated petitions to hold an election to determine whether they ought to be removed from office.
