At a recent meeting of County Commissioners and Road Department Superintendent Bear Taylor, a jovial argument ensued about speed limit signs in Jefferson City. “15 miles per hour is what they’re asking for,” Commissioner Bob Mullen teased Taylor. “Well they don’t get them,” Taylor joked back. “They’re not a school zone.” A round of laughter around the meeting table led to Commissioner Dan Hagerty commenting directly to Mullen, “You’re going to miss this!”
Mullen ended an 11-year term of service as Jefferson County Commissioner, where he represented the communities of Montana City and Elkhorn. In that time, Mullen watched over a decade of population growth and significant rises in property values, and worked to manage the resulting issues that growth can bring.
“I find the issues that arise from land use planning and changes to existing land use law every two years to be most difficult,” Mullen told The Monitor. “To my good fortune, we have a team of committed Planning Board members and staff that make my decisions quite easy.”
