Council hears comment on three proposals

Based on comments at a special Boulder City Council meeting Monday night, July 30, the community is on the right track to identifying uses for the $500,000 granted last year by the legislature.

About fifteen members of the community attended to ask questions about three proposals the city is working on. While there were questions about the process, and about details of the projects, no one voiced opposition to the plans and several said they believed the city was headed in the right direction. Under the proposals, recommended to the council by the Boulder Development Fund Board, $100,000 from the $500,000 granted by the state legislature would become a revolving loan fund to help expand, enhance or improve businesses and their buildings. That could include a wide array of items, including bringing in high speed internet and other technology advances, said the board. The fund would not be a grant fund. Money loaned through the fund would have to be repaid by the borrowing business.

Other funds, estimated just under $50,000, would be dedicated to creating a city website, along with training staff to post updates and make changes to keep the site current. The project would also cover developing a community brand, including a logo, typeface, tagline or slogan, and adding that brand to community signage. Gateway signs welcoming visitors to Boulder would also be part of that project, said the board.
