The number of active coronavirus cases in Jefferson County nearly doubled between Monday and Thursday, accelerating a steady increase in cases that began in late July with 12 new cases reported on Thursday.

This latest increase brought the county from 13 active cases on Monday to 23 active cases on Thursday as of 2:30 p.m., according to a report issued by Boulder Medical Clinic Coordinator Molly Carey. Jefferson County Public Health Supervisor Pam Hanna said that this was the greatest number of active cases, and the greatest transmission rate, the county has seen since February or early March. Carey’s report also indicated that one individual is currently hospitalized.

Carey said last week that she began putting out two case reports per week—one on Monday and another Thursday. Between Aug. 9 and Aug. 12, Carey reported an increase of 12 new cases, meaning there were at least 25 new cases from that Monday, Aug. 9, to this Monday.
