Clancy Schoolhouse Community Meeting Room has become a vital part of the community, providing a free, central place for gathering, learning, sharing, and collaborating. Fifteen regular and dozens of infrequent groups bring the monthly average to 60 uses, serving hundreds of community members.
When facility volunteers reported troubling signs that the meeting room might not be safe, the North Jefferson County Public Library District trustees recognized the need to address the issues. In April 2018 the library put together an initial fundraising campaign, raising $1,067 from the generous Clancy community.
In May, the Jefferson County Commissioners authorized WWC Engineering to identify issues that needed to be addressed in the meeting room. Their report indicated over 30 feet of sill plates and several joists had deteriorated, endangering building integrity and meeting room user safety. Repair costs were estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars. When Clancy Old Red School House Foundation member Vicki Gruber mentioned the problem to Adam Senechal of Golden Eagle Construction, he committed to fixing it.
