A report on the services of Rocky Mountain Development Council (RMDC), a public comment session on a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, board appointments and a Whitehall sewer project were all on the agenda when the Jefferson County Commission met February 7.

Lori Ladas, executive director of the RMDC, attended to update the commission on community services provided by that organization. (See separate article in this issue on the front page.) Joe Willauer, executive director of Headwaters RC&D in Butte, reported on development of a regional economic development plan.

Commissioner Bob Mullen reported that the county’s Mental Health Advisor Council is considering two moves to improve participation: teleconferencing for meetings and consolidating with Broadwater County’s MHAC.

Commissioner Leonard Wortman reported that efforts continue to cover costs of a sewer project for Sugar Beet Row in the Whitehall area. “Everybody’s been working diligently to make sure this gets done,” he said.

Pat Lewis of Boulder was appointed to serve on the Tax Increment Finance/Targeted Economic Development District board. That board oversees special economic districts intended to provide incentives for businesses. The commissioners revised their regular meeting schedule to start the morning component of their Tuesday meetings at 9:30 rather than 9 a.m. They also established the burning season for the county, setting the rules for obtaining a permit for open burning.
