Carbonation, corn, candy and cream are set to collide on Boulder’s Main Street in mid-January, with the opening of the long-anticipated Bull Mountain Soda Fountain.

Boulder residents Stu and Lisa Goodner, owners of the new business and of the building housing it, say they will complete final preparations over the coming weeks.

“We’ve had this in the works now for a long while,” said Stu Goodner. “We’d originally hoped for August, but that, for reasons, didn’t happen. We were able to give something of a sneak-preview during the Christmas parade, but could only do pre-packaged food made elsewhere. But we’ll be fully going here, soon, and it’s going to be really special.”

The Bull Mountain Soda Fountain, located next to the Panther Pit and the Stitch and Stone shop, will offer a selection of small-batch, hand-made ice creams from Bozeman-based creamery Genuine Ice Cream. It also will stock Bubbly Bear craft sodas from the Glacier Brewing Company in Polson and specialty popcorn from KornUtopia in Missoula.

“We wanted to make sure to source our inventory as heavily as possible with products from Montana businesses,” said Stu Goodner. “Which, luckily, also happen to be of the highest quality.”

The Bull Mountain Soda Fountain will also include an old fashioned penny-candy store, though the candy itself is priced at roughly five dollars a pound. The candy is stored, Goodner says, in antique Brazilian shipping crates that once belonged to one of the engineers who helped design the “Spruce Goose” in 1947, the largest wooden aircraft ever assembled.

“There are a lot of thoughtful little details here that we’re quite proud of,” said Stu Goodner. “We want people to love this place, and, if they do, we’ll create some more foot traffic along Main Street.”
