The annual Clancy’s Day celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, in Clancy. Each year the community invites visitors to help celebrate the history of the area with food, music, contests, a parade, presentations and vendors. Clancy, midway between Boulder and Helena, was founded in 1864 as a mining and agricultural area. Trains between Butte and Helena made stops in nearby Alhambra and brought visitors to the local hot springs resort in the early 20th century. These days, Clancy is a quiet residential community that maintains and honors much of the history and culture from its early days.
Clancy’s Day visitors can start the day with a pancake breakfast and later grab some of the other great food offered by the Boy Scouts and other fund raising organizations. Seated in the shade on hay bales in the square next to the old red schoolhouse, which now houses the museum, visitors are treated to live music. Historical and educational presentations, vendor stands offering a variety of wares, firewood raffles, children’s games and a “puck race” that features wooden disks in the local stream are all part of the fun available. At noon the Clancy Volunteer Fire Department sounds the siren that begins a parade of tractors, fire trucks, floats and other special vehicles. For more information, call Mickey Senechal at 459-2615.
