Clancy wildfire scorches 15 acres

1dd858f50b793da056dad08ff4551113 — One of two Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation helicopters drops water on the Kelly Gulch Fire five miles west of Clancy on July 30. Initially reported as a sighting of smoke at 2:35 p.m. that day, the fire was caused by lightning and burned 15 acres, according to a DNRC news release. The DNRC, the U.S. Forest Service and Clancy, Montana City and Eastgate volunteer fire departments initially responded to fight the fire, which burned in steep terrain between Clancy Creek and Lump Gulch and threatened no buildings. It was listed as 100% contained and in patrol status by Friday.
