The effort to restore the old school gym in Clancy into a community center is gaining momentum. Committee chairperson Mickey Senechal said that electrical upgrades to the building are expected to begin within two to four weeks. Heating upgrades and work on insulation for the skylights should start around the same time, she said.
Senechal also reported that 1600 donation request letters were assembled and mailed out to local residents, resulting in nearly $3,300 in contributions. Another $150 was received from online donations. A contribution jar at the Community Center’s Clancy Days display yielded another $57.
The committee is attempting to raise about $177,000 to complete repairs and upgrades to the nearly 60-year-old building. During the Clancy Days presentation, guests were invited to share memories of their time in the old gym, and to provide ideas to create a diverse center open to all.
