Clancy board might survey water customers about project

Disagreement, uncertainty and hesitation continue to surround the proposed building of an estimated $2.9 million centralized water system in Clancy, with the potential cost to customers an ongoing sticking point despite secured and potential grants and the support of local businesses and county officials.

The system was proposed following a study of 89 houses that found elevated amounts of nitrates and uranium in some of the town’s drinking water. That study was published in January 2018 and prepared by Montana Tech in conjunction with Jefferson County Sanitarian Megan Bullock.

At a well-attended Aug. 27 meeting, the Clancy Water and Sewer District board voted 4-0 to approach the Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder’s Office about holding an informal, non-binding survey of taxpayers.
