Clancy back road awaits County fix

An unpaved stretch of Clancy’s Warm Springs Creek Road that runs through Helena-Lewis & Clerk National Forest near Strawberry Butte is barely passable by vehicle due to mid-road gullies, bathtub-sized potholes, and foot-deep ruts next to sharp drop-offs.

“People are driving around the ruts,” said County Commissioner Cory Kirsch, “but this one on the Clancy side was getting so bad they were trying to get around it and getting way too close to the edge.”

Residents urged the county and Forest Service to maintain the road, but the response has been delayed due to some confusion and a changing road repair plan between two government bodies.
