A vehicle accident on Haab Lane in Clancy on Oct. 9 left one young victim dead and another injured.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Arnold told The Monitor at the scene that the incident occurred about 5 p.m. Wednesday and involved a single vehicle. The driver, who was 15, left the roadway while attempting to avoid a small animal and was unable to re-establish control. The vehicle then rolled into a field near the Clancy Volunteer Fire Department Hanging Tree Station.
Arnold said the passenger, also 15, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Peters Hospital.
The victim who perished was identified as Kennady Trettin of Clancy. Trettin attended Montana City School from kindergarten through eighth grade, according to her obituary, then attended Jefferson High School, where she was a sophomore. She was involved in numerous sports, including gymnastics, swimming, soccer and skiing.
Jefferson High Principal Mike Moodry said a moment of silence was observed for Trettin before the Panthers’ volleyball match on Oct. 10.
A memorial service will be held at the Montana City School on Friday, Oct. 18 at 10 a.m. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Kennady Trettin Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made via Venmo @KennadyTrettinScholarshipFund or at any Valley Bank location in Helena.
