The City of Boulder has completed its surveying effort for the Boulder River Trail, one of eight trail segments within and adjacent to the city originally envisioned in 2018.

The surveying effort, conducted by Stahly Engineering and Associates, concluded that easements, which are transit permissions granted from one property owner to another, are required from Jefferson High School, Jefferson County, and the Montana Highway Patrol facility in order to connect the proposed half-mile trail segment to existing sidewalks on Main Street.

A river front park and 3.67-mile trail system was first proposed in the city’s 2018 “Downtown Master Plan,” produced in the wake of the closure of the state’s Montana Developmental Center. The trail, “starting to the east of the bridge on Highway 69 would help to open up this resource to be used and enjoyed by residents and visitors,” according to that plan.
