The Youth Development Initiative (YDI) campus located on the former Montana Developmental Center property is presently county property. YDI, according to CEO Dennis Sulser, hopes the 9-acre campus will be annexed by the City of Boulder at its upcoming City Council meeting on May 20.
“We’re already on city services, so it makes sense that we become city property as well,” said Sulser.
YDI hopes that joining the city of Boulder will allow it to pursue more locally targeted grants, such as Community Development Block Grants that assist both city and county governments in developing and preserving affordable housing.
Boulder City Administrator Brian Bullock said that the city and Jefferson County were still determining specifics related to the transfer, such as the potential impact YDI’s campus may have on the city’s tax base. Bullock said that Boulder and Jefferson County hope to resolve such questions by next week’s Council meeting.
