City appoints police board

Appointing members to the city police commission, agreeing to place a $400 reservation on the purchase of ten city lots, starting a floodplain update, voting to call for proposals for the city attorney position, and reviewing the rules of council procedures were among items handled in the February 20 Boulder City Council meeting.

The council previously debated the necessity of a police commission and heard that state law requires such a body when there are three or more police officers. At the time of that debate, the city had three officers. By last week’s meeting, the department was down to two, and shortly after the meeting another resignation left the city with one officer.

“If we want the protection that everybody’s looking for,” said Mayor Rusty Giulio last week, the city needs three officers.
