Community Christmas celebrations were held across Jefferson County this past weekend, where residents came out in force to spread holiday cheer. With costumes, lights, sweets, treats, and snow, though late arriving, abound, hundreds of people across the county gathered to welcome the holiday season.
On Dec. 6, Boulder held its annual Christmas parade and tree-lighting ceremony. Festive floats and other heavily decorated vehicles floated up and down Main Street, throwing candy at the more than 200 spectators lining the road. Local 4-H members sold Christmas trees, while Main Street businesses remained open to welcome parade attendees. North Pole resident and prominent global toy distributor Santa Claus made an appearance at City Hall, where he received the Christmas requests of local children.
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night,” said Claus in an interview with The Monitor. Claus’s attendance in Boulder was partially arranged by Jefferson County Road and Bridge Department Supervisor Bear Taylor, who, alongside his staff, prepared a sleigh-landing and reindeer care center near McCarty Creek Road. Claus, who also appeared at the Jefferson City community center on Dec. 7 and other private gatherings across the county, told The Monitor that every child he met this year was on his Nice List, which, according to Claus, is anomalous.
