Chamber considers facade improvement program

Whether Boulder should get involved in a Main Street Facade Improvement Program and how it is going to be carried out was a major topic at the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce meeting October 10.

The program would provide matching funds for Main Street property owners and businesses between Leslie and Fourth Avenue to improve the exterior appearance of their buildings. Signage, awnings, removing non-historic elements, painting, masonry repair, window repair or replacement, sidewalk repair, and improvement to customer entrances are among potential eligible projects. Another program, a revolving loan fund, could help businesses find their matching funds in a low interest loan, said officials.

If the facade program is to exist, “we really need somebody to take hold of it as an organization and do it,” said Drew Dawson of the Boulder Development Fund Board and Boulder Transition Advisory Committee.
