Brady Armstrong makes JHS wrestling history, again

2023-2024 Class B state champion Brady Armstrong becomes first JHS wrestler since 1979 to win his weight class at the CMR Holiday Class Tournament in Great Falls Dec. 21.

The Jefferson High wrestling squad finished 20th out of 60 teams, and sixth among Class B and C schools, at the annual CMR Holiday Class Tournament on Dec. 20 and 21. Brady Armstrong became the first Panther wrestler since 1979 to win his weight class at the event, and Megan Anderson became the first Jefferson girl ever to medal.

The CMR tournament is an all-class competition featuring many of the best teams from Class AA, A and B/C. The Panthers came to Great Falls with 13 wrestlers, including Spencer Abbott at 110 pounds, Russell Douglas at 118, Korbin Rintamaki at 126, Mason Mikesell at 132, Mike Richard at 150, Steven Agge at 157, Blake Nordlinder at 165, Andrew Rodriguez at 175, Dylan Stevens at 190 and Armstrong at 215. In the girl’s division, Emma Jurkovac competed at 100 pounds, Sophia Ahkivgak at 125 and Anderson at 135.

Rintamaki, Agge and Nordlinder had first-round matches, with Agge advancing. In the second round Jurkovac, Douglas, Ahkivgak, Anderson, Stevens and Armstrong all won, but only Jurkovac and Armstrong won in the third, advancing to the quarterfinals.
