The sky will light up with an impressive fireworks display Tuesday night, bringing a close to a day filled with activities in Boulder. The day gets going around 10:00 a.m. when the painted ponies start prancing on the Boulder River Carousel at the fairgrounds south of town. The rides will continue until 11:45, just in time for everyone to make their way to Main Street for the annual parade at noon.
Floats, marchers and musicians festooned in red, white and blue, offer lots of chances for children to pick up candy and for adults to spot neighbors in fanciful costumes. A few moments of solemnity will mark the day at 12:45 when the American Legion holds a tribute at the flagpoles in Veterans Park.
Then from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. families will celebrate in Veterans Park with games, a dunking booth, a photo booth, music and concessions. A good, old-fashioned watermelon eating contest is in the plans as well, along with face painting, rock climbing and a bouncy house. Organizers say there is something for everyone, even if it is just enjoying the company of friends and neighbors in a relaxed atmosphere.
