Boulder finds funds for July 4th fireworks

Boulder will again have its fireworks show this year, but it probably won’t have Hong Kong Harry’s.

At its May 19 meeting, the City Council heard a request from the Boulder Kiwanis that the city absorb some of the cost of the annual Independence Day display. The Kiwanis has produced the show for over a decade, financing the extravaganza via its public sale of fireworks.

In recent years, said Kiwanis member Eric Rykal, “the fireworks show has cost more than what we can generate from fireworks sales – so if we fully fund the show, we have to take money away from other things we fund, like scholarships.”
