While the decision to close the Montana Developmental Center rightly raised concerns in Boulder, the impetus it gave to community planning and cooperation could be positive in the long run. That was a message delivered March 2 by Tash Wisemiller from the Montana Main Street program.
Speaking to approximately 35 Boulder area residents, Wisemiller said, “This is a unique opportunity for this community.” He also praised the obvious interest of Boulder folks in buoying the community. “This tells me the time’s right,” he said. “Everyone’s here.”
Boulder has been a member of the Montana Main Street program for five years but never taken advantage of the opportunities that opens, said Wisemiller. Part of the reason for that, he said, maybe that the organization focused almost entirely on providing training five years ago. Since then it has added a focus to open up funding opportunities and assist communities with targeting and obtaining funds.
