Boulder budgets for massive July 4 display

Fireworks—some launched by firefighters atop Boulder's Capital Hill, some by residents around town—burst over Boulder shortly after dusk on July 4.

Eyeing its biggest-ever Fourth of July fireworks show to mark America’s 250th birthday, Boulder last week approved a $15,000 budget for this year’s display, up from $10,000 last year.

The increase, unanimously approved at the City Council’s Feb. 17 meeting, should translate into a substantially larger display, with an assist from Big Sky Fireworks, the Helena-based firm hired to oversee the show.

Big Sky offers a 25% discount on orders paid by April 30, meaning Boulder’s $15,000 effectively purchases a $20,000 show – double last year’s funding.
