Basin Elementary’s effort to reopen for the coming school year was cast into doubt this week as the state Office of Public Instruction signaled that a key deadline had already passed.

School administrators and board members had been moving forward under the impression that returning the recently shuttered school to operating status later this month would be possible.

County school superintendent Sarah Eyer last week held a preliminary interview with an applicant for the head teacher position, potentially inching the 130-year-old school toward a possible reopening for the coming school year.
