At Jefferson High: Shark tank, song and siding

Happy Holidays!

Jefferson High School teachers are working very hard to keep the students on task during the holiday season — not always an easy task. In Dawn Smartnick’s business class, a few staff members took part in her version of “Shark Tank”: Students pitched us an idea and we were able to ask them marketing and sales questions on their product. It was fun and we made them think on their feet.

Before the break, we will be visiting Mary Ann McMahon’s class for a “Statistics Class Presentation.” Students will show different sets of data from various surveys conducted by the class — a true application of what statistics is used for. These are just a few of the great academic endeavors happening at JHS.

The annual Christmas concert, conducted on Dec. 12, was amazing, as always. We were treated to a chorus segment, several band arrangements and a string quintet. The students were dressed very nicely, with many wearing Christmas sweaters. It was well attended and an excellent performance.

With activities in full swing this winter, Jefferson High School will be a very busy place. Construction has taken away a large portion of our parking lot, so we have entered into a short-term lease agreement allowing us to use the lot half a block north on the corner of North Madison and East Third Avenue. The area has been mowed by the city, and we will do our best to keep it maintained throughout the winter. Please be courteous of others while parking in that area.

The construction project is really beginning to take shape. With the interior framing complete, we can now get a realistic feel for the building. The rough-in for electrical and plumbing are well underway, and workers will begin the masonry soon. Siding will happen shortly, as well, giving everyone a good look at what to expect. We are very excited as we see all the changes taking place.

Enjoy your holiday season,
