At Boulder Elementary, parents fume

Nearly a dozen parents expressed frustrations at Monday’s school board meeting over Boulder Elementary’s failure to find a substitute 4th-grade teacher and lack of communications, and fears of their children falling behind.

In October, with 4th-grade teacher Katelyn Hansen set to go on maternity leave, the school secured a substitute, according to the school board. When the substitute was unable to continue teaching the class after the holiday break, school officials scrambled to find a replacement, but failed to do so.

Officials assigned a paraprofessional to carry out the lesson plans, leaving the school’s fourth graders without a certified teacher from Jan. 5, potentially until Hansen’s expected Feb. 2 return.
