After the deluge, Country Jam goes on

Headwaters Country Jam has a pretty relaxed energy: About 4,000 fans, many in various stages of inebriation, crowd cheerfully into a pasture near the Jefferson River in Cardwell to take in three days of tunes from some of country’s biggest names, like Koe Wetzel and Dwight Yoakam.

But big music festivals don’t always, or maybe ever, come off hitch-free. (Remember Woodstock, anybody? Anybody?) And at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Country Jam’s happy vibe was dented by lightning nearby and word of a severe weather warning.

Security raced around the concert grounds to warn attendees to take shelter. Many revelers fled back to the sprawling mass of RVs and campers that formed a temporary city upon a hill.
