Advisory group tours repurposed Riverside Correctional Facility

The Riverside Correctional Facility in Boulder is wrapping up a transition delayed for months mostly due to remodeling issues.

Formerly providing court-ordered treatment for women suffering from abuse and other trauma, the facility will now house up to 27 ailing, mostly aging, inmates of the Montana State Prison system as the Riverside Special Needs Unit, according to Assistant Director of Nursing Jeanine Ford.

The Montana Department of Corrections moved 19 inmates there April 12, states a news release from then. They had been housed in a secure wing of the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center that is operated by the Montana Department of Health and Human Services in Lewistown.
