A journey through Clancy Days, to parade’s end

It was daybreak on Saturday — and Clancy Days was officially on.

Not burdened this year as in the past decade by the Governor’s Cup half-marathon, which has been re-routed to the hills outside Helena, organizers and vendors set out early to turn the town’s four streets into a festive marketplace. Parking areas and traffic control were set up. Sound equipment for the musical performances was powered up.

Singer Isaac Carroll took the main street stage with his guitar at 9 a.m. to welcome the first visitors. Many were still arriving, navigating freshly mowed pastures in search of parking spots as vendors set up shop. Locals presented yard sale items on tables between the retailers, hoping some visitors might be drawn by old jigsaw puzzles and antique glassware.
