A BOULDER MONITOR EDITORIAL… How could anyone do that to this fine Boulder lady?

Sally Houtchens, shown at right, gets down on her knees every spring and performs backbreaking work on behalf of the community. Single-handedly, she weeds and spruces up one of the median islands on Boulder’s Main Street. And, as can be seen in this photo by Sue Pasini, she smiles when she does it – in spite of the fact that she is no spring chicken and faces some health issues. It was while she was beautifying the community about a week ago that someone walked off with her favorite walking stick. She had placed it aside and when she finished, it was missing. Anyone who has or finds the blue, telescoping walking stick is asked to bring it to the Boulder Monitor office so we can get it back to her. Maybe it was just an oversight, maybe it was taken with the thought it was abandoned, who knows? Whatever happened, though, surely she deserves better treatment by the community she serves so joyfully.
