I have friends that think that President Trump was the worst thing that happened to the United States. I have friends who think President Biden is the worst thing that has happened to the United States. What if there was a way to put national politics in its place, and increase your influence over your daily life?
There actually is, through something called a Convention of States. In our founders’ wisdom they wrote into the Constitution Article V. The first part most people heard in civics class where 2/3 of both houses can call for a vote by the states to amend the Constitution. Very few, however, have heard of the second part where the states themselves can call for a Convention of States.
It would take 34 states to call a Convention of States, then resolutions would have to be sent back to the states and 38 states would have to approve to create an amendment. This overwhelming majority would eliminate the fear of a “runaway Convention” where we lose one of our vital freedoms.
Some potential amendments may be term limits for Federal offices, eliminating duplicate Federal/State roles such as Agriculture and Education, and similar. Our forefathers knew the problems that came from local issues being dictated from thousands of miles away, and were wise enough to give us this option to make sure it didn’t happen in the U.S..
Check it out, Article V, Convention of States.
