Each week in the United States, approximately nine million children go home from school hungry. Thanks to the Gallatin Valley Food Bank, 21st Century Community Living Centers Consortium Director Rochelle Hesford and the Jefferson High School Thespians club, that number is reduced each week by helping to provide food for the youth of Boulder.

Members of the thespian group at JHS get together weekly to pack lunches for the children who are opted into the Kids Pack program. They then deliver the pack lunches to between 35 and 40 children at Boulder Elementary and several to Basin Elementary, so the students can have enough food to get through the weekend.

Of course, young children may have a difficult time preparing food or knowing how to make a meal out of the items available. This being the case, the items included in the packs are nonperishable and easy to prepare foods. At least once a month fresh produce is also included in the packs.
