Boulder Hot Springs has received Montana State University’s Eco-Star Award, recognizing pollution prevention efforts. It has won this award numerous years in a row.

The hotel, spa and retreat center was cited for reusing over 5 million gallons of heating water a year, using  alternative and natural mosquito control methods, and reducing hazardous waste by 2,000 pounds. It sources local and organic food and grows its own produce. Its staff carpool to reduce greenhouse emissions, and recycling of newspapers, magazines, office paper, cardboard, aluminum, glass and plastic reduces 9,000 pounds of waste.

Montana State’s Montana Pollution Prevention Program was established in 2001. Cool Earth Creamery, MacKenzie River Pizza, Simms Fishing, Eco Montana and Bridger Bowl also won awards.
