Clancy School’s request to voters for an increase in levies — which joined the candidates on the May 2 ballot — failed to gather the majority of votes needed to pass.
According to the unofficial ballot count, 342 people voted against the increase and 249 voted in support.
The proposed levy request would have permanently increased the amount of annual taxes collected by $214,520.42, and would have been used to help cover required expenditures, according to Clancy School District Clerk Jennifer Goehring.
Clancy School Superintendent told school board members during their March 9 meeting that additional staffing needs were also a concern, explaining that if the school exceeds 400 students the school would need to hire another counselor. There are currently 392 students enrolled at Clancy School.
Had the levy passed, Clancy School would have reached its maximum levy amount and would never have been able to request another increase again.
As for the trustee election, Trent Jensen will return to Clancy School’s Board of Trustees after receiving the most votes in the May 2 election, only this time newcomer Bob Gallagher will join him.
Jensen received 359 votes, followed by Gallagher with 297 and current board member Coty Rogers 250, according to the unofficial ballot count Tuesday evening, provided to The Monitor by Jefferson County Clerk and Recorder Ginger Kunz.
Gallagher and Jensen did not respond to The Monitor’s request for comment following the release of the unofficial election results before the press deadline.
Goehring did not respond to The Monitor’s request for more recent comment regarding the levy failure before the press deadline.
The Clancy School Board of Trustees will meet on May 11, and during their regular board meeting, will canvas and certify the election results.
