The Monitor’s annual report: There’s work to do!

Each year at this time, I share some reflections on how The Monitor has evolved and where it’s pointed. I do this as a matter of transparency: Just as The Monitor expects government and other civic actors to be accountable for what they’re up to, I think that news organizations should be forthright about our goals and how we’ve measured up, or haven’t.

But it’s also a valuable indulgence for The Monitor’s team, a moment to step back and consider what we’ve accomplished — what’s worked, what hasn’t so much, and whether we’re living up to our mission of helping our community navigate its shared future.
