At the Clancy Elementary School board meeting on Nov. 13, Superintendent Daryl Mikesell introduced Jaime Hildenstab as a new independent consultant focused on strengthening the school’s special education programming.
Hildenstab will be charged with developing the school’s “STAR Room,” a curriculum that provides particular assistance to students who fall in the autism spectrum. According to the STAR Autism Support website, STAR offers “detailed lesson plans, teaching materials, data systems and a curriculum-based assessment for teaching in the six curricular areas of receptive language, expressive language, spontaneous language, functional routines, academics, and play & social skills.”
Hildenstab recently retired after 31 years at the Montana City School, where she developed a similar program. Mikesell, who was most recently principal at Montana City, told the Clancy board he was impressed enough with Hildenstab’s work to lure her from retirement on a part-time basis to replicate the program at Clancy School.
