The Basin Water and Sewer District board, at a public hearing held on Sept. 28, approved a resolution to pursue a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to support a long anticipated water system improvement project.

The grant, administered by the Montana Department of Commerce, would provide up to $750,000 of the project’s roughly $1.5 million anticipated total cost and allow for a potential completion date sometime in 2026.

“We have a strong preliminary plan, but it’s still just something of a rough draft for how we’re going to make this happen,” said Basin Water and Sewer District board president Jason Norman during the hearing. “We’re flexible, and are willing to look for ways to bring the cost down, if we end up needing to. Hopefully we receive all the grant funding we’re asking for, and can keep moving forward.”
