Animal Shelter & Care of Jefferson County (AS&C) hosted a “Cats, Chili, and Cowboys” fundraiser at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds on Oct. 25, where it successfully raised more than $2000 for the completion of their long-anticipated kennel building. AS&C has roughly $20,000 left to raise before being able to complete its kennel construction project, which it hopes to accomplish through donations and additional fundraising events.

“Fundraising dependent, we should have the kennel operational by early 2025,” said AS&C event and fundraising coordinator Darlene Moyer. “We need to finish some plumbing and other construction, as well as acquire the necessary amenities, like animal housing and perimeter fencing.” Moyer also suggested that AS&C may receive significant but unspecified donations in the coming months.

AS&C hosted more than 50 people at its “Cats, Chili, and Cowboys” fundraiser, where cats, chili and cowboys all were present. AS&C also offered a series of raffles, competitive corn-hole, and a western-style photo booth area. Live music was provided by local talent Dan Henry.
